So, the two anime series Death Note and Ghost In The Shell are getting live action adaptions released here in America, with Nat Wolff starring as Light Yagami and Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi. But, unfortunately (but, expected) there are people complaining about movie studios "white-washing" characters. These people are upset because actors portraying these roles are white -- however, ironically, these same people were on board with Michael B. Jordan, an African-American male playing Johnny Storm, a Caucasian male, even going so far in saying that those expressing their disapproval of it are racist. These are also the same people that got all up in arms about Spider-Man because he's only allowed to be white and straight...you know, like he is in the comics..in which, the movies are being based off of? Apparently, when it comes a white person playing someone non white character -- it's whitewashing, but when it's a black person or some other ethnicity playing a white character, people turn a blind eye. Look, my problem isn't that white people are playing Asian characters, but the fact that these movies are being made. Hasn't Hollywood learned from Dragonball Evolution that making live action adaptions of anime series is setting themselves up for a box-office and critical bomb? Besides, if I look at a character from the manga or comic (or whatever's being adapted into live action) and look at the actor or actress and can tell that's who they're portraying, it's all good with me.
Confession: I'm slightly disappointed they didn't get Zac Efron to play Light. I mean, talk about a missed opportunity.
